Happy Friday!

Yes, I am happy that it's Friday! And the sun is out - which doesn't happen too often in MI in the winter, so I'm enjoying looking at the blue sky as I sit here at my desk on my morning break. My mom will be here this afternoon, which is a wonderful thing for many reasons. I enjoy her company, the girls are thrilled to have Grandma here (which gives me a bit of a break), and I will get to sleep in tomorrow because Mom usually gets up with the kids and lets me sleep on Saturday mornings. And it's the start of a 3-day weekend, so even better.  :)

Hey, you gotta take your joy where you can find it - it's not often that I just plain 'let' myself feel happy, so I'm going to push other worries aside for the moment and enjoy it while it lasts.

Here are a few more things to feel happy about on this Friday morning - I've gotten some awards recently that I need to acknowledge and pass along. You all know how much I enjoy that, right?  :)

hottie

First, I received the 'Blog Buddies' award from my friend Corey over at Living and Loving Every Minute Of It. Thank you, Corey! For the award, and for saying, "You are a blogging queen. So kind, helpful, and fun. thanks!". If you haven't been to Corey's blog, you have to go and wish her sweet little Sugar Bear a very happy 3rd birthday - and see all of the incredible photos that Corey posts. She is an amazing photographer!

I'd like to pass this along to some of the friends I've made through blogging - Anna, Tammy, Jean, Christine, Holly, KC, MomOfThree, and Wendy. And to any other of my blogging friends, please feel free to take it as well - I love you all!  :)

 DailyDose

Thank you to Jennifer from A "Sample" of Jennifer's Thoughts for this award! Here's what it means:

"This little award is called The Daily Dose - and here is all the important info to tell you what it is about and where it came from. This is a tribute to all the blogs that you've discovered that you can't possibly live without. They make you laugh, cry, think and feel connected every time you read a post. They give you a thrill as you see them loading into your browser and you get an equally satisfying thrill when you see that they have commented on your blog".From Xandra: creator, The Daily Dose Award.

It's an honor to be considered someone's Daily Dose - thank you so much!

I read a lot of blogs - some more regularly than others, but I try to keep up as much as I can. I don't always have the chance to comment on every post or to reply to comments that people leave here - if there were several more hours in a day, I would love to though! There are several blogs that I do try to read religiously and don't consider my day complete until I have the chance to see what they're up to. So this one goes to Karen, Summer, Corey, Kailani, Michelle, Shannon, Sherry, Shana, Megan, Carrie, and Karen.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Anna at Beth & Cory's Mom has given me the 'You Cheer Me Up' award! Here's what Anna said, "You ladies cheer me up like hot cocoa on a cold day, like curling up with a good book and a warm blanket, like a visit to the lake in the summertime - and so much more."  Aww, you are so sweet and thank you!

This award was created by Ann at A Nice Place in the Sun:

If you are one of the recipients of the You Cheer Me Up Award, please find at least five blogs that cheer you up, copy the code to post on your sidebar (can be found on Ann's post) and pass Ethel and Lucy across the blogosphere. You can use what cheers you up in your post, or copy this one, all I ask is that you link back to the original post to get a copy of the code for the image, and check out the list of the wonderful blogs I will have posted on the award page.

I'd like to pass this along to Kristi, Amber, Eileen, Kerry and Jennifer. You ladies always help to cheer me up.

Happy Friday, everyone! :)

Fun Friday Awards

I am very glad that this first week back from vacation has been a short one. Having to get myself and the girls up at 6:30am again has proven to be a struggle over the past several days (just ask my frustrated hubby), as has trying to get all of us out of the house on time. Abby and Hannah go back to school next week and all of our evening activities start back up then as well though, so I am happy to be jumping back into the 'swing' of things relatively slowly. And very happy that it's Friday and another two days off are ahead of me before I have to deal with all of the craziness again. :)

I need to catch back up (again!) on some bloggy housekeeping items and Fridays always seem to be such a good time for that. I have a few awards to acknowledge - and some tags as well, but I'll probably do those in separate posts so that this one doesn't get way too long.

ilessthan3yourblog

Isn't this a very cool idea for an award! I received the "I Less-than-three your Blog!" award from Karen at Pediascribe a little while ago. She said,

"One more thing….Deb at Mom of 3 Girls….I less-than-three your blog too, but you just posted way too much for me to keep up with! Girl, I’m up to 39 unread posts from you! So you can accept this award from me even though you probably thought I stopped reading two weeks ago! I do less-than-three your blog!!"

LOL, I think I did go a little post crazy back in December - maybe the freedom of not having to post every day after NaBloPoMo ended caused me to create what I will admit was probably an overabundance of wordiness. Oops. Hopefully I can keep a somewhat steadier pace here in 2008 and will try to post on a regular basis without overwhelming anyone. :)

Anyway, thank you Karen - it means a lot to me that you even tried to keep up, especially considering how crazy busy your life has been. I 'less-than-three' your blog right back!

I'd like to pass this award along as well to a few new (to me anyway) blogs that I've discovered recently - And Babies Make Six, From Talbots to Target, and Overstuffed.

bloggeroftheday6

Over at The Life of a School Bus Driver! I received a wonderful Christmas present - I was her 'Blogger of the Day' on December 25th. What an honor - and thank you so much! :)

Wow, this was a surprise - I discovered that I was included in 1 Million Love Messages' list of 2007 inspiring blogs. Thank you so much! Here is the full list of all 200 awardees:

I also received an award from (and created by) El Gigante Verdoso - the 'You Rock My Socks' award, which was given to mostly the same list as the one above, so I won't include it here. Thank you!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Good-bye to 2007...

This year has been an interesting one for me. Not much has really changed - no big milestones or anything like that. I did not have a baby, get pregnant, start a new job, or move. For me, the theme of 2007 could probably be something like, "same old, same old".

And there's nothing wrong with that.

Especially after the ups and downs (mostly downs) of 2006 - I was very glad to have a relatively quiet and peaceful time this year.

There is one big thing from 2007 for me to celebrate however. The birth of... this blog! On May 30th, I started writing here, with no real purpose in mind except to chronicle my life as the mom to my 3 wonderful daughters, as a 'working out of the house' mom, to hopefully write some things worth reading, and also to maybe meet some other moms or people I could connect with. And I have to say, from my own perspective, I think that I've been pretty successful so far. I have journaled a lot of my children's milestones, stories and photographs, I've met some incredible and amazing people, and I hope that I've connected with at least some of you through what I've written. It's been a wonderful and fun time and I can only hope that 2008 will be just as good.

I wanted to do a few things to thank some people - those of you who have helped me learn more about this whole 'blogging' thing and have supported me in one way or another. I've received such love through links, awards, tags and giveaways that I want to give something back. I thought long and hard, and finally decided that the best way to do this is to spread some linky love here to everyone I can think of who's helped make 2007 such a wonderful blogging year for me.

I've learned a lot about how blogging works from MamaBlogga, ProBlogger, Blogging Tips, and by reading and participating in blogs like Pediascribe, Scribbit and Write From Karen.

I've learned more about writing from reading posts and participating in writing contests and group writing projects at MamaBlogga, Scribbit, and Summer's Nook.

I've had posts included in the Carnival of Family Life and the Mothers and Daughters Blog Carnival.

I've done weekly meme's such as Give Me Five Monday, Monday Madness, Memory Lane Monday, Heads or Tails, Tackle It Tuesday, Wordless Wednesday, Works for Me Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, Throwback Thursday, and Aloha Friday.

I've been tagged for meme's by One Mom’s World, Are We There Yet, Believer in Balance, My 3 Wisemans, Coming to a Nursery Near You, My Life As Mama Jodi, An Island Life, Mason & Terri's Mom, Beth & Cory's Mom, Mama Pajama, MomOfThree, ...And Miles To Go Before We Sleep..., Confessions of an Organized Mess, A "Sample" of Jennifer's Thoughts..., ExPat Mom, Pediascribe, Amanda, Mom Knows Everything, The Natural News, Working Momma 247, Becca's Buzz, Brainfizzles, and Mommin' It Up (yes, I'll get to it soon!). I've got a few to get caught up on as well, and if I've missed anyone, I'm sorry and please let me know so I can add you to the list. :)

I've received awards from a lot of wonderful new friends as well, like Holly, Megan, Anna, Michelle, Donetta, Elizabeth, Jen, Jean, Kellie, Jennifer, Momma Bean, Tammy, Bridget, Shana, Neena, Laura, MomOfThree, ExPat Mom, Natalie, Jenn, Jenny, and Nap Warden. Thank you so much again to all of you!

It's been fun doing special projects or being involved in meaningful activities like Blog Day 2007, cyber baby showers at 5 Minutes for Mom, and again at Classy Mommy, the Christmas Tour of Homes, and Blog Day for 'The Mother's Act'. I hope to participate in these and others like them again in 2008.

I've discovered many sites for women - blogs and others - full of helpful tips, reviews, contests, and blog posts by amazing women. Sites like 5 Minutes For Mom, Pinks and Blues Girls, BlogHer, Blog Mommas, eMoms At Home, iMommies, Working Moms Against Guilt, MomsBlogging, and Work It, Mom!. I'm sure there are many more out there that I have yet to find and I look forward to doing so!

And I can't finish this without mentioning all of the amazing blogs that I've found in 2007. Trying to recognize everyone would probably be impossible, but I want to share some link love with as many as I can. Some of these I read regularly, some have become blogging friends, some I read whenever I can squeeze in an extra moment, and some are regular commenters here that I try to check out whenever I can. And I'm sure there are many more out there yet to be discovered!

The 'official' Awards page

I decided that it's time to clean up my sidebar a bit and try to get more organized around here in general. Call it some "pre-Christmas" housecleaning, I guess.

One of the things I'm doing is moving most of my awards off of my sidebar on my main page. I'm doing this for a couple of reasons. First of all, they take up a lot of room on my sidebar (not that I mind really - thank you again to everyone who's honored me with an award!). But this way I can have a bit more say in how they are displayed. And by making a separate page (post), I get to share some link love back again to those who've been so nice to me.

So here, in no particular order, are the awards that I've received - hereafter to reside on this, my official 'Awards' page. :)

Thanks, Corey!

Thanks, Jennifer!

Warming up a cold Friday...

It's a gray, cold day out today, but I've got several awards that I need to acknowledge and pass along and that does indeed warm me right up to think about. :)

First off, I received the You Make Me Smile award from ExPat Mom, who lives down in Guatemala. This was her very first award and I'm honored that she chose to share it with me. She certainly makes me smile as well. :) I've passed this one along before, but wanted to share it again with a couple of bloggers who also make me smile - Jen from Absolutely Bananas who makes me smile and laugh and snort almost on a daily basis, and Michelle from In The Life of a Child because her incredible writing and stories about her daughter Jacqui always make me smile and because she and Jacqui have been sick on and off for the past few months, so I hope this brings a little bit of cheer for her.

I've received a couple of awards recently from my friend Anna at Beth & Cory's Mom. Thank you, Anna! I truly value your friendship and love reading all about you and your kids - and all of the things I know we'll be dealing with before I know it when we hit the teenaged years. :)

My girls are going to love the designs on these two awards - Abby loves kitties and Hannah loves doggies. These are just too cute for words! I'd like to pass them both along to all of my blogging friends - too numerous to name here, but please take one or both if you want! :)

I received this next award from my friend Michelle over at In The Life of a Child. I hope that she is feeling better and back to blogging soon because I miss reading her hilarious posts! I would like to pass it along to Jean from Working Momma 247, Jenny from LIVE! and In Color, and Sarah from Real Life because they help spread the Christmas cheer with their words and wonderful festive blog designs.

My friend Tammy at Mom Knows Everything has given me the Bodacious Blog award - thank you, Tammy! :)

I just noticed that I also received the last two awards from Jennifer over at A "Sample" of Jennifer's Thoughts as well - thank you as well to her! What a 'warm' Friday this is really turning out to be!

Some holiday award-ness

Being that today is Thanksgiving, I thought that it was the perfect time to give thanks for the many wonderful blogging friends I've met over the past several months. I've been very remiss in acknowledging some awards lately, so I wanted to take this opportunity to accept them and pass them along for a little Thanksgiving treat to some other awesome bloggers as well.

I don't think I've missed or forgotten any of these, but if I have - I'm sorry!

First of all, I was awarded the 'Excellent Blog' award by Momma Bean - thank you so much! And if you haven't checked out her blog, you should because it's excellent as well and she's got a couple of the cutest little Beans over there. And if anyone knows how to get the graphic for this one to do that cool animated blinking thing that it does over on her site, let me know, ok? :) I'd like to pass this along to some blogs that I think are excellent - there are so many that I love, but I'd like to give this one to Mama Pajama, One Mom's World, and Any Apples.

I have received 2 awards from Anna at Beth & Cory's Mom! Anna is a wonderful blogging friend and I enjoy reading about her teenagers - I'll be there soon enough! :) First of all, she has given me the Colors of Friendship award. I feel honored to be considered her friend and want to pass this right back to her along with some of my blogging friends as well, Bridget from ...And Miles to Go Before We Sleep, Christine from Are We There Yet?, Barb from Skittles' Place, and Karen from Surviving Motherhood.

Anna has also given me another friendship award! And I also received the same award from Bridget at ...And Miles to Go Before We Sleep as well! I feel truly blessed with all of the friends I've made and continue to make out in the blogosphere. You all are wonderful! I have so many blogging friends I'd like to pass this to and don't want to leave anyone out - if you're reading this, consider it yours! :)

My friend Michelle from In The Life Of A Child has given me this next award, "for her unfailing thoughtfulness of others". I hardly know what to say because I find that her blog lifts me up so much and her wonderful humor never fails to make me laugh when I need it. thank you! So I would give this right back to her, but also want to pass it to a couple of other blogs that have given me a lift when I've needed it, Sarah from Real Life, Joyful Days, and Lynnae at From Under The Clutter.

Thank you and I hope that everyone is having a truly wonderful Thanksgiving!

Catching up...

It's been a very odd day. I'm not sure why, except that I was home instead of at work and in the world of a toddler all day... I'm just feeling very 'blah' for some reason. Maybe it's sugar shock from all the leftover Halloween candy I've been stuck at home with for the past 2 days. :)

I have 4 awards that I need to acknowledge this week and one meme that I've been tagged for. So to get started...

I was awarded a Halloween treat award from Jenn at ~enjoying the ride~ last week and didn't get a chance to thank her then, so I'd like to do so now. Thanks, Jenn! And I love your blog! :)

Holly at Mama Pajama has given me the Wonder Women award! Wow, I'm really honored that she thinks so. I think that all of the moms I know are really 'Wonder Women' but I would like to pass this award on to a couple of them - Eileen and Michelle. You ladies are truly amazing.

And Holly also awarded me the Bloggers With Integrity award as well, under the category of "For Staying True to Their Beliefs". Thank you, this one really means a lot to me. The award was created by The Little Aussie Cynic to honor those blogs with integrity and there are several different categories you can award it under. I'm going to do so as well, to pass it along to just some of the many bloggers who I feel strive to blog with integrity.

Thank you for both of those, Holly!

And Megan at SortaCrunchy has given me the Community Blogger award - thank you! I really feel honored to be a part of this whole blogging community and love everyone I've met here. So I'd like to give this one to everyone - if you don't already have it (or even if you do), consider it yours! :)

Lastly, Karen at Pediascribe has tagged me for the Desktop Capture meme.

Here’s how you play:

A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. PC people: You can do a screen capture by going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key). Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V). If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it. MAC people: You can do a screen capture using Grab.

B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.

C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Desktop Capture shot of their desktop as well.

D. Add your name to the list of participants with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Capture post to promote it to succeeding participants. The list will keep getting longer and longer!!!

Ok, well since I'm on my home computer at the moment, here's the desktop from my laptop:

The picture is from a couple of years ago - I know I should probably update my desktop with one that includes Becca, but I just love this photo so much that I can't bring myself to do it. Besides, I have pictures of all 3 of them on my work computer desktop... I don't have a lot of icons on my desktop in general since I try to keep it pretty clean and clutter-free (one of the few areas in my life I seem to be able to accomplish that!).

Here are the people who were already on the list:

Dawn @ Coming to a Nursery Near You
Karen @ Pediascribe
Stacey @ Jamee Forever
Meredith @ Pregnantly Plump
Karly @ Wiping Up Snot
MelodyAnn @ ShooFly
Deb @ Mom of 3 Girls

And I'm going to tag the following 5 people:

Kerry @ and baby makes four
Jen @ One Moms World
Sarah @ Real Life
Karen @ Surviving Motherhood
Jean @ Working Momma 247
